Enrollment Procedures

ADMISSIONS

No child will be denied admission to Saint Peter Catholic School on the basis of color, race, ethnic origin, or religion.
 

Admission is based on the following criteria:

  • That the Catholic parents/guardians desire to raise the child in the Catholic Faith by setting an example that gives witness to this Faith;

  • That the parents/guardians agree to support the organizations which assist the school, namely the Boosters and the volunteer programs;

  • That the parents/guardians agree to pay the school tuition according to the established rates;

  • That the parents/guardians and children agree to cooperate and uphold the school rules and regulations;

  • That all non-Catholic students must study the Catholic faith and participate in all liturgical services according to the school calendar; and

  • That the children of parishioners or Catholic children who are members of the local parishes will be given first preference if a waiting list is used, and families of children already enrolled in the school will be given first consideration.
     

Lastly, transfer students will be accepted in grades K to 8 after receipt and evaluation of their most recent report cards and pertinent official school records. Students transferring may be administered a placement test by a staff member of Saint Peter Catholic School.
 

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

ADMISSION TO 3 YEAR OLD PROGRAM – FULL DAY

  • Must turn 3 by August 31

  • Potty trained

  • Non-refundable registration fee

ADMISSION TO 4 YEAR OLD PROGRAM – FULL DAY

  • Must turn 4 by August 31

  • Potty trained

  • Non-refundable registration fee

ADMISSION TO KINDERGARTEN
After acceptance of the above criteria, the following regulations must be observed:

  • The child must be 5 years of age by August 31.

  • The child must have attained the level of maturity necessary to function adequately in a structured educational setting. This level of maturity may be determined by pre-testing, teacher observation, and parental consultation.
     

At the time of registration, the following documents must be presented:

  • Copy of the birth certificate

  • Non-refundable registration fee

  • Transportation form (provided by the school)

  • Immunization records (See requirements at the end of this section.)

  • The school must also be made aware of any social, physical, mental, or emotional limitations of the child (psychological testing, IEP, medical documentation).
     

ADMISSION TO GRADE ONE

After acceptance of the above criteria, the following are required:

  • The child must be 6 years of age by August 31.

  • The child must have attained the level of maturity necessary to function adequately in a structured educational setting. This level of maturity may be determined by pre-testing in which the child must show successful performance.

  • Any student who does not attend Kindergarten at Saint Peter Catholic School must take a readiness test for first grade at Saint Peter Catholic School. 
     

At the time of registration of new students, the following documents must be presented:

  • Copy of the birth certificate

  • Non-refundable registration fee

  • Transportation form (provided by the school)

  • Immunization records (See requirements at the end of this section.)

  • Copy of standardized test scores, if available

  • The school must also be made aware of any social, physical, mental, or emotional limitations of the child (psychological testing, IEP, medical documentation).
     

ADMISSION TO GRADES  2  THROUGH  8

New students will be accepted on a probationary basis, probation to last until the end of the marking period closest to the child’s enrollment in Saint Peter Catholic School. Parents may be asked to sign an agreement in this regard.
 

At the time of registration of new students, the following documents must be presented:

  • Copy of the birth certificate

  • Non-refundable registration fee

  • Transportation form (provided by the school)

  • Immunization records (See requirements at the end of this section)

  • Copies of standardized test scores

  • Copies of the student’s report cards

  • The school must also be made aware of any social, physical, mental, or emotional limitations of the child (psychological testing, IEP, medical documentation).
     

IMMUNIZATIONS

All kindergarten students, fourth grade students, and new students from other states or districts who are entering into a Catholic Diocese of Wilmington School, are required by the diocese to provide record of a current physical exam.  The physical should be completed over the summer and turned in on the first day of school.

 

The following documentation and immunizations are required for all children starting school in the state of Delaware:

  • Physical Exam- The physical should be current, within the last 2 years, and include a review of all systems, as well as vital signs and all updated immunizations.  For the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, a physical is required at the time of school entry and in 4th grade.  Only immunization records are required to be updated annually.

  • DTaP, DTP, or TD vaccine-  5 doses (If 4th dose was given after the 4th birthday, then only 4 are required)

  • IPV or OPV vaccine-  4 doses (If 3rd dose was given after the 4th birthday, then only 4 are required)

  • Hepatitis B vaccine-  3 doses (usually given at birth, 2 months, and 6 months)

  • Varicella vaccine-  2 doses (usually given at 12mo old, and after the 4th birthday, children in pre-k and K may start school as long as 1 dose has been given)  If a student is not vaccinated due to disease history, then documentation of disease history is required.

  • MMR vaccine-  2 doses (usually given at 12mo old, and after the 4th birthday, children in pre-k may start school as long as 1 dose has been given)

  • Tuberculosis (TB) Test- Current results (within the last 12mo) of either a Mantoux skin test or a TB risk assessment to determine TB status is required.

  • Lead Blood Test- Documentation of testing for children aged 6 and younger is required.
     

New students are granted 14 days from the first day of attendance to show proof of these immunizations.  Students not in compliance at the end of this 14 day period shall be excluded from school until requirements are fulfilled.
